Inquiry into waste and recycling industry in Australia
The Australian Senate is conducting an inquiry into the solid waste and recycling industry and is seeking written submissions from interested parties as to the impact of the inquiry on them.
The full terms of reference are HERE. They are concerned with where material is going, the accreditation of landfills, the extent of illegal dumping and the role of landfill levies and other instruments, current economic conditions of the industry and what role (if any) the Australian government might play in providing a coherent framework.
An opportunity to provide input, particularly whether a national approach might address efficiencies, is currently being considered by VinsBins.
The committee comprises Liberals from Tasmania and WA, Labor from Qld and Tasmania, Victorian Greens and John Williams from the Nats.
Submissions are due on 20th October. Contributions welcome for a general response that will likely focus on landfill levies and how they should be used and the regulatory framework.
